In December 1990, leading European carpet manufacturers founded Gemeinschaft umweltfreundlicher Teppichboden e.V. (GUT) based in Aachen, Germany.

GUT – Environmental and Consumer protection

The aim of GUT is to continuously optimise environmental and consumer protection during the entire life cycle of a textile floor covering: from raw materials to production to installation and post use recycling. By working with officially recognised Testing Houses throughout Europe, regular product tests are carried out based on strict criteria. As one of the aims of GUT is to encourage the industry to work towards a circular economy, it actively encourages installation methods with as little environmental impact as possible, innovative solutions for products at the end of life, and helps to develop new production methods. One of the key roles for GUT is to offer objective and impartial advice to all its members and act as an Industry voice.
